About:
Hi, my name is Shelley Avraham and I am a freshman at California State University, Northridge. I am from Los Angeles, California and I have two older brothers. I've always had a passion for kids, but I'm not sure yet what my major will be. For my english class, we were assigned to pick a genre and make a website all about that genre. We are required to read a text from that genre, watch a film of that genre, and watch a couple episodes of a TV show that falls under the genre we pick as well. This is a really cool assignment because it is not just an essay like any other project we get assigned. We actually get the opportunity to create a real website that anyone in the world come across online. I chose Horror, therefore, this website will be all about the genre of horror including novels, films and shows. I will be posting things about different sources and my website will continue to grow weekly. I chose the horror genre because I felt like it was exciting and would be fun to explore. What I like most about it is that it is an unpredictable genre. I think many genres are very expectant and the events that occur seem normal, but in horror, anything can pretty much happen, so you don't know what to expect. That is a factor that I love about this genre. I also love the thrill and excitement of the horror genre because it keeps people on their feet and waiting for more to happen. With horror, it seems as if you'll never be bored, which is always good.
The text I plan to read is Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. This is the first book of the True Blood series which also has a corresponding television show. I've heard many good things about the book and show so that will be exciting. The televisions show I will watch for this assignment is The Walking Dead. This show seems really intense and I always hear people talking about it, so I am excited to see how the horror is incorporated in it. The film I will watch is Interview With A Vampire, which also seems really good. What I am most curious about when analyzing the horror in all these three sources is comparing them to see what aspects of horror they both included or similarities they had in general. I really hope to discover how directors and authors use different ways to send the same message or incorporate the same types of characters.
I am really excited to be writing about this genre because it is one that I myself enjoy very much. I love the excitement and I love the thrill. I am also excited to create a website and take on the challenges of this new and creative assignment. Through this website and assignment I hope I help you all learn a lot about the amazing horror genre and open up new doors next time you consider what book to read or which movie to go watch.
